About the Irish Coastal Rowing FederationIn the 1988 two neighbouring rowing associations, namely The Irish Yawl Rowing Association (Co Cork) and The South and Mid Kerry Rowing Board attempted to revive interest by running a regatta between the two associations (loosely called an "All Ireland"). It was from this small beginning that the present organisation evolved and the Irish Coastal Rowing Federation as it stands today represents around fifty clubs on the island of Ireland, with another ten clubs attempting to re-form and join the Federation. Aspirations of the Irish Coastal Rowing Federation
Our hope for the future is that we may, under the guidance of the Sports Council, be part of the development of sport in Ireland. We already see the benefits of our sport, in our individual communities, where access to sport for geographical reasons could prove difficult. Coastal Rowing involves all ages and most clubs have teams ranging in age from under 12\\\'s to veteran. We would hope to develop a strategy of sound based training and physical well being under properly trained coaches.
We see participation in our sport benefiting rural communities and helping sustain declining rural life. We have the natural local facilities to encourage team and community spirit through training and competing together. We also hope to expand our skills and expertise in order to compete on the international stage.
