Press Release on behalf of Rowing Ireland & the ICRF

Rowing Ireland and the Irish Coastal Rowing Federation (ICRF) are pleased to announce that following a prolonged series of negotiations, the ICRF have agreed to affiliate to Rowing Ireland and become the Coastal Division of a much enhanced Rowing Ireland. This watershed in Irish Rowing history sees the two organisations merging into a single entity with a combined membership of approximately 150 clubs and in excess of 6,000 registered rowers, this allows the combined organisation to offer rowing in almost every corner of the country. Although coming under the umbrella of Rowing Ireland, the Irish Coastal Rowing Federation will continue to administer all aspects of coastal rowing in Ireland. Anthony Dooley, President of Rowing Ireland stated “The affiliation of the ICRF to Rowing Ireland creates immense opportunities for both river and coastal rowing. The combined administration model is best practice in many countries and we have no doubt that it will be successful in Ireland.

I extend a warm hand of welcome to our fellow rowers in the ICRF”. Bill Deasy, President of the Irish Coastal Rowing Federation stated “Since its creation in 1992, the Irish Coastal Rowing Federation has worked tirelessly to unite through Mutual Respect and Sporting Partnership, the Coastal rowing communities of Ireland. This new Sporting Partnership with our river water colleagues is the logical next step in that process, which will also be based on mutual respect for each other’s traditions and we are very excited about the prospects it creates for the future growth and development of both fresh water and coastal rowing in Ireland”. Members of the Board of the ICRF will be in attendance at the National Rowing Centre in Inniscarra on Saturday as guests of Rowing Ireland to observe the finals of the Irish Rowing Championships which are taking place from Thursday to Saturday. Issued jointly by Rowing Ireland and the Irish Coastal Rowing Federation Thursday 14th July 2011.
