Irish Coastal Rowing Federation

The Irish Coastal Rowing Federation is in the process of formally adopting the Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Young People in Sport. The adoption of this Code of Ethics will have far reaching consequences for how all clubs conduct themselves in relation to the treatment of their younger members.

Clubs are asked to start preparing themselves for the introduction of the Code of Ethics as soon as possible. Clubs can begin by formally appointing a Club Child Welfare Officer who will be responsible ensureing their club adheres to the practices required by the policy. Similarly, clubs can send members to attend Child Welfare courses conducted by Local/County Sports Partnerships. These course are provided throughout the country and generally the cost is in the region of E10 - E20 per person. The course are of approximately 4 hours duration.

Clubs can also send their Child Wefare Officers on a Child Welfare Officers course but they must first have participated in the Basic Code of Ethics course. There must also be a gap of a number of months between participation in the basic Code of Ethics Course and the Child Welfare course so clubs are advised to book the Code of Ethics courses as soon as possible.
