Hi, am re visiting this site for the first time in a while. Always been interested in traditional rowing boats, and saw many in the first Cork, 'Ocean to City' race, a couple of years ago. There was a brief, but very interesting article on UK tv last night re "Antrim gigs", a craft i'm not familiar with. They look very much like Cornish Flashboats, (if that means anything to anybody) Does anybody have any usefull contacts where i could find out more please. Great website (much better than the Cornish Pilot Gig site !)

I think the federation website should have a photo gallery where every one can see pictures from the all irelands and of all the winning teams. We all should be able to subit photos for this I know i have a good few from over the years....

The Coastal Rowing Association held its Dinner Dance and awards presentation recently. A great night was had by all and the main awards were as fopllows: Club of the Year Rushbrooke Championship Joint Winners - Rushbrooke and Crosshaven A special presentation was made to two of our longest serving Officers Ted Mc Sweeney and John O Leary who have done so much for our association over the years. It was great to see such a turnout for the event and we are all looking forward to next years rowing already.

A number of clubs on the East coast looking to have an East Coast Skiff built, but over the last few years, we have not been able to get anyone to build one. The "Skiff" is a 26 foot clinker, wooden boat similar to the Greencastle Yawl of the 1900's. I will try to add a picture. If anyone knows of someone who might build one of these boats, you can contact me by e-mail. Yours in sea rowing, Gay Murphy

As another Cork Club member I'd like to echo John's comments (N0.83.). There are appropriate forums within the association to air any concerns or complaints. Using this forum to stir up negative feelings between clubs and associations is cowardly and acts as a disservice to the sport of Coastal Rowing and those working to promote all that is positive in this tough but great sport. Well done to Ferrycarrig on hosting a great All Ireland Championships. Crosshaven Rowing Club were delighted with our achievements at the championships and especially proud of all of our juvenile crews who qualified for all of their championship finals. Looking forward to seeing all clubs out on the water next year and if we can organise a few more competitions all the better.

Our annual charity row around Cobh island was a huge success again this yera with clubs from all over travelling down to take part. Fifteen baots took to the water with the following clubs taking part: Rushbrooke, Whitegate, Fishermans, Kinsale and Dock, Passage West, from the CRA, Myross, Castletownshend, Kilmacabea, Kilmacsimon, Courtmacsherry from the SWCYRA, Ferrycarrig from WRA and Blackrock Rowing Club. A great day was had by all involved and amny thanks to Roddy O'Connor who generously donated two sets of oars for the raffle. The oars were won by Rushbrooke and Kinsale and Dock.

In regard to "Mary Murphy" we would like to reply that we accept the judges decision on the day. Both Mary B and Johanna have the full support and backing of our club and indeed every club in the county.I agree with John Harrington that MM could be from anywere and these anonymous comments do nothing good for the sport. In the kingdom we have no problems listening to criticism and we respect anyones opinion providing a name and club are also supplied.Look forward to taking up the galley on their offer. Also well done to all involved in organising this years all ireland and best of luck to all clubs next year.
With the greatest of respect this Mary Murphy from Cork could be James Joyce from Wexford for all we know. This comment was obviously submitted to create some sort of friction between Cork and Kerry Clubs which looks to have worked. Please don’t tar all clubs in Cork with the same brush especially when this person does not declare their colours. Sure we’re looking forward to seeing ye next year and who knows we may come up with some event early in the season to have a couple of Kerry clubs down. We need to look at Coastal rowing as a national sport and not just stick to our own associations. Cross association relationships should be built in the next 12 months and stop all this crap!!!!!

I would just like to reply to comment 79 and also back up what Mary B says in Comment 81. I was also a judge on the day of the Kerry County Championship last Sunday. Yes we did have some very close and very exciting races but we called the results as we say them on the start/finish line. As Mary B said we all have a great deal of respect for the sport of Rowing and each other as rowers in this county, and all the clubs involved repected the decisions we made as judges on the day. It is very sad to see someone from another county coming in and tearing our championship to pieces.
