The Cromane Regatta took place last sunday 12th july with 14 clubs travelling to the opening regatta of the Mid and South Kerry Rowing Season. There were big entries in a lot of the races with 10 races in total on the card. The first race of the day set the scene with 10 crews taking part in the under 12 race and it took inches on the line to seperate the Sneem and Cromane boat and great excitement on shore when all these rowers came in Sneem taking it on the line. There was some great performances and it looks like we will have some titanic battles for the season ahead to mention but a few the Senior men of Callinafercy and Portmagee was super close race as was the Minor Boys of Cromane and Sive and Killorglin with a length covering all three crews at the finish line. The biggest cheer of the day was reserved for the Senior Ladies Race with the home crew taking the gold much to the delight of the crew the cox and the crowd, this was their first win and it meant more when it was at the home regatta. Sneem rowing club had a fabalous day out taking 4 wins out of 10 in U12, U14 Boys, U16 Boys and U18 Girls who must get special what a crew they gave a display of rowing that was simply awesome and it may by only the first regatta of the season but you can see the hard work and dedication is paying off. Cromane hosted but had a huge day too winning 3 races u14 Girls U18 Boys and Senior Ladies. Sive took the honours in the Under 16 Girls with another solid display. There were big numbers in a lot of races so the four oars are in a healthy position, however the Seine Boat with a struggle only had two boats Cnuicin and Valentia and while these crews must be complemented in being on the line those of us that love the Seine Boat wish there were more it is our pride and joy and it was disappointing to see only two at the start line, Cnuicin put in a solid display to take the Gold and fair play to them you can see they have a lot of work put in.
Cromane Rowing Club would like to thank all the clubs that travelled to the regatta and all those who supported in any way all the fund raising endeavours from the Gala on Saturday nite in the marquee to the Barbeque and Duck Race and the Disco on Sunday nite all were a fabalous success and it was much appreciated and to the local businesses far and wide that supported the club a Mile Buiochas.
Next weekend we are off the Cahirciveen with Draw for the Buoys down for 4 o clock and another feast of rowing to look forward to.
