Perfect Rowing Conditions in Cromane
Cromane Regatta took place on Sunday last and it all kicked off with the Under 12 race and it was fabalous to see 9 boats to take to the start line and watching on with nervous applause alot of adoring parents who gave loads of encouragement to their boys and girls rowing in this race for many this was their first race and it was very satisfying to see so many young boys and girls row with pride in our traditional 4 oar. This was the second regatta on the circuit and already there is some great rivalries forming with results changing around and crews that followed up their Gold in Sneem in Cromane again this week namely the Senior and minor men of Callinafercy and the U16 Boys of Cromane. We had some great races and fabalous rowing and one could see even from afar the absolute delight when winning their races for the home club of Cromane the Under 14 Girls rowed a powerful race as did the Under 16 Girls of Portmagee.
The Callinafercy Senior Men who were under pressure for most of the race from Valentia pulled out all the stops to win their race and that was following up 2 days of a family wedding for most of this crew their cox Ciaran O Sullivan was thrilled with his crews perfomance and sang their praises after the race. The Senior Ladies of Valenita put in a solid performance to take the Gold in the Senior ahead of Fenit and Callinafercy. Valentia took another Gold in the Under 14 Mixed race with a very good performance from these young boys who look a class act and are very focusses and their cox Dermot Walsh was a happy man heading home to Valentia. The Seine boat race was won again by the Liberator ahead of Cnuicin and that wrapped up the rowing action on the water.

Cromane rowing club would like to thank those clubs that came and supported their regatta and they are Fenit, Callinafercy, Cahersiveen, Valentia, Portmagee, Cnuicin, Caherdaniel, Templenoe and Sneem and to all the club members who helped out on the day. We have to give special mention to all those who took part in the Christmas Day Swim Ozzy Style and to Liam Hayes who led the charge in to the waters this was a fund raiser and all that supported it was very much appreciated.
Killarney Regatta took place on Sunday as well and it was another great success well done from all on the South and Mid Kerry Rowing Circuit it is so important to both boards to keep their tradition alive and well and there is a tremendous respect by each rowing board to the work that is being done by their clubs. Kathleen McCarthy PRO of the South and mid kerry rowing board was delighted with the tremendous support by all clubs for the Cromane Regatta especially the under age races great to see such huge numbers and she let us know there will be no rowing action next weekend and to wish the best of luck to all rowers who are doing the Ring of Kerry Cycle for different Charities and of course Kerry in the Munster Final. Next rowing action is on Sunday 9th July in Cahersiveen.
