Sneem Regatta

All roads lead to Sneem last saturday afternoon and we were treated to some wonderful races and finishes. The conditions were pretty much perfect and the day started with the Under 14 Ladies and again the Portmagee Girls proved too strong for the other crews. The Mighty Under 14 Mixed crew of Sive made it 4 wins out of 4 and have a perfect record to the delight of Padraig Shea their cox. One of the best finishes of the day was in the Under 16 Ladies with Valentia and Cromane fighting it out all the way until the finishing line with Cromane taking the Gold. The Under16 and Under 18 Boys crew of Killlorglin took the gold in these races and we were treated to a great race by our youngest class the Under 12s which was won by Templenoe followed in by Cromane and the second Templenoe crew. Portmagee Senior Men took the honours again in the Senior Men Race to make it two wins in a row and it was the home crew of Sneem Senior ladies who took the honours in a hard fought race and to the delight of the home supporters this class crew took the Gold with a massive battle between Valentia and Callinafercy who fought it out for the Silver and Bronze.
All eyes turned to the Seine Boat the final race of the day and it was great to see the home crew of Sneem take to the starting line. It was to say the least a very interesting race and with 4 boats heading to the first buoy it looked like the Valentia crew were going to take the buoy but the Liberator and Valentia tangled and missed the buoy with some cute coxing by Michael Driscol in the Cnuicin boat he kept out side the tangle and got clear away both Valentia and The Liberator had to back around the buoy and the hunt was on to catch Cnuicin and slowly but surely the Liberator rowed her way up to get less than a boat length from Cnuicin from the Point in and it was still all to play for with a minute to go the Liberator and Cnuicin both wanting the win never gave up and with a half a boat length of an advantage The Liberator took the honours all are looking forward to the next duel in this race fair play to Sneem they took the Bronze and Valentia finsihed the race to close the Sneem Regatta well done to all in Sneem Regatta Committee for a very enjoyable day out.
